Ashkirash 1 is described as "captain of the host of the Armaniko" (presumably strategos of the Armeniakoi), Ashkirash 1 went from Constantinople and attacked Melitene and plundered the district around: Mich. Syr. II 506, Bar Hebr., p. 112. The date was apparently around the time of the overthrow of the caliph Marwan II (Marwan 2), i.e. c. 750.
