Artabasdos 8 was a patrikios and komes of the basilikon Opsikion; owner of two similar seals, with identical texts but from different boulloteria, dateable to the eighth century: DOSeals III 39.24a and 39.24b (= Zacos and Veglery 1741b and 1741a). Obv.: (both seals) cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει, with τω - σω - δου - λω in the corners. The name and titles read: The absence of the title kouropalates makes it uncertain whether this person is identical with Artabasdos 1; the latter was most probably kouropalates before he became komes of the Opsikion. On the date (possibly nearer the middle than the beginning of the century), see Winkelmann, Rangstruktur, p. 73.
