Anonymus 763 was the brother of Ignatius the Deacon (Ignatios 9); he had a copy of the four Gospels made at his own expense and at his death bequeathed it to Ignatios The letter was addressed to the patriarch Methodios, and was therefore written between 843 and 847. The book came into Ignatios 9's possession some time before 826; his brother must therefore have died before that date.
