Anonymus 696 was a spatharios and krites of Thessalonike; owner of a seal dated by Laurent to the eighth or ninth century: Laurent, Orghidan 237. Obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει with .. - .. - δου - λω. Rev.: αθ' κ' ρ' Θες - λον. The titles are restored by Laurent as: σπαθαρίῳ καὶ κριτῇ Θεσσαλονίκης. The appearance of the title κρίτης at this date is questionable. Given the condition of the seal, the reading καὶ ἐπάρχῳ Θεσσαλονίκης is perhaps more likely.
