Anonymus 601 was a friend of the patriarch Photius (Photios 1), who mentions Anonymus 601 in a letter written on behalf of Anonymus 601 to the patrikios Ioannes 446, probably between 859 and 867 (τῷ μὲν φίλῳ ὑπὲρ οὗ σε πρεσβεύω) by Photios 1; Photios 1 interceded for Anonymus 601 with Ioannes 446 and asked Ioannes 446 to help Anonymus 601 just as once Photios 1 had helped Ioannes 446: Photius, Ep. 185 (II 74ff. Laourdas-Westerink).
