Anonymus 566 was an Arab commander sent with troops by the caliph Omar II (Omar 2) to join Maslama 1 in 717 at the siege of Constantinople; Anonymus 566 had instructions to report on the true condition of the besieging army under Maslama 1, and his report that the letters of Maslama 1 gave an optimistic picture and did not correspond with the true situation led Omar 2 to order the abandonment of the siege: Chron. 1234, ยง161 (p. 306).
