Anonymus 312 was a hermit (solitarium quendam) at Tarentum, whom the emperor Constans visited in 663 to enquire about his chances of subduing the Lombards in Italy; he replied that they would only be conquered when the basilica of St John the Baptist built by queen Theodelinda (PLRE III) at Monza fell into disrepute; Paul the Deacon comments that this prophecy came true in his day: Paul. Diac., Hist. Lang. V 6.
