Anonymus 283 was a former bishop, who had abandoned his see because of the iconoclast persecution and taken refuge in the mountains of the Decapolis in Isauria; there he became a spiritual leader and was visited by the youthful Gregory the Decapolite (Gregorios 79) for help with his spiritual problems; Anonymus 283 sent Gregorios 79 to visit some nearby monks for guidance: Ignatius, Vita Greg.
