A close associate of the Frankish ruler Pippin (Pepin 1), Anonymus 246 delivered to pope Stephen III (II) (Stephanos 8) at Rome confirmation of Pepin 1's readiness to grant Stephanos 8's request for help against the Lombards who under Aistulf 1 were oppressing Italy: Lib. Pont. 94. 16 ( alius missus familiaris eius ).
