A Lombard, Anonymus 243 was sent as envoy by Aistulf 1 to accompany the imperial envoy Ioannes 235 back to Constantinople; Anonymus 243 is described as "quendam proprie gentis nefarium virum, diabolicis inbutum consiliis": Lib. Pont. 94. 8. The date was either late 752 or early 753, to judge by the sequence of events. He accompanied Ioannes 235 back from Constantinople to Rome and returned from there to Aistulf 1 at Ravenna: Lib. Pont. 94. 17.
