Anonymus 242 was a bishop in Italy; in 742 he was consecrated bishop, following his predecessor's death, by pope Zacharias 16 in the presence of the Lombard king Liutprand 1 at Interamna; the name of the see is uncertain because the place name is unknown: Lib. Pont. 93. 10 ( in locum Cosinensis antestitis qui transierat, alium ordinavit episcopum ). See Duchesne, n. 17 on p. 437. The manuscript variants of the name are: Cosinensis; Consensis; Consinensis; and Consignensis. The name may have been Consentia (Cosenza), suggested with reservations by Duchesne. Could the name have been Casinum (reading: Casinensis)? According to Duchesne, n. 47 on p. 438, no bishop of Casinum is recorded at any Council of Rome after the fifth century.
