Anonymus 153 was a patrikios, basilikos protospatharios and strategos of the Anatolikoi; owner of a seal dateable to the eighth century (see below): Schlumberger, Sig., p. 266, no. 3 (facsimile). Obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει with τω - σω - δου - λω in the corners. Rev.: .... - ικιω β' α'. - παθ' και στρ.. - ηγω των Α - νατολ. The name and titles read: ...ικίῳ βασιλικῷ πρωτοσπαθαρίῳ καὶ στρατηγῷ τῶν Ἀνατολικῶν. Schlumberger restored the first word as the name [Μαυρ]ικίῳ and dated the seal to the eighth or ninth century. It is possible however that the name is completely lost and that the letters ικιω represent the ending of the title [πατρ]ικίῳ; see Seibt, in Winkelmann, Rangstruktur, p. 77. Seibt (loc. cit.) also prefers to date the seal to the eighth century.
