Anonymus 49 was a monk in Crete during the reign of Michael II (Michael 10, 820/829); Anonymus 49 guided the Arabs under Abu Hafs 1 (Apochat, Apochaps) to the best site for them to settle in, and took them to Chandax: Theoph. Cont. II 23 (p. 77), Ps.-Symeon 622-623, Genesius II 10.
