Anonymae 1 were nuns living in the women's monastery (Trikhinareai) on Mt Auxentius; they were at worship in church when soldiers burst in to arrest Anna 6; according to the account given by Stephanus Diaconus, one sought refuge behind the altar screens, one hid under the altar cloth and one escaped up onto the mountain: Vita Steph. Iun. 133, 6-16 (1128C). This implies that there were only three nuns present in church; perhaps the author is using a rhetorical device to describe the confusion, and in fact some hid in one way, some in another and others escaped up the mountain. The date was some time after 754 (after the Council of Hieria).
