Anonyma 84 was the mother of Michael Synkellos (Michael 51); after she had given birth only to daughters (two daughters: Vita Mich. Sync. 3), she prayed to God for a son, promising to dedicate him to a life of religion; she then gave birth to a son, viz. Michael 51: Vita Mich. Sync. 1. Michael 51 was born in c. 761. When he was three his mother presented him to God in the Church of the Anastasis (at Jerusalem), offering him to the patriarch; she and her husband then sent him for his elementary education; later, when her husband died, she and her daughters were persuaded by Michael 51 to enter one of the monasteries at Jerusalem and become nuns: Vita Mich. Sync. 2. The date was apparently c. 786 (cf. Michael 51). They received the tonsure from Michael 51 and entered a monastery close to Holy Sion: Vita Mich. Sync. 3.
