Andreas 40 was hypatos and chartoularios of the basilikon Vestiarion; he was the owner of four seals dateable to the eighth century (so Zacos and Veglery; Laurent dated them to the first half of the eighth century): Zacos and Veglery 1409a = Laurent, Corpus II, no. 688 = Hunger, "Beamtensiegel", no. 3 (obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεότοκε βοήθει, with a circular inscription of +Ανδρεα υ...ω; rev.: + και χα - .τουλα - .ιου του - .ασιλικο - . .εστια - ...), Zacos and Veglery 1409b = Laurent, Corpus II, no. 689 (obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει, with a circular inscription of τω δουλω σου Ανδρεα; rev.: +υπα - τω και χαρ - τουλαρι. - του βα... - ικου β.. - τια...), Zacos and Veglery 1714a, 1714b = Laurent, Corpus II, no. 690 (similar seals; obv.: cruciform monogram of Θεοτόκε βοήθει, with τω - δου - λω - σου in the corners; rev.: +Ανδ - ρεα υπ. - τω και χαρ. - ουλαριω τ.. - β' βεστ..). The name and titles read: Ἀνδρέᾳ ὑπάτῳ καὶ χαρτουλαρίῳ τοῦ βασιλικοῦ βεστιαρίου. In Zacos and Veglery, Seals, p. 853, all of these seals are judged to have belonged to one and the same individual.
