Andreas 23 was a monk in the monastery of St Zacharias at Atroa founded by Peter of Atroa (Petros 34); Andreas 23 had a severe affliction and visited the tomb of Petros 34 to be anointed with oil, but half-heartedly, and was not cured; he then turned again to the care of doctors, but after three years with no improvement repented and asked the hegoumenos Iakobos 4 to intercede with Petros 34 on his behalf; Iakobos 4 prayed with Andreas 23, then anointed him with the holy oil; Andreas 23 recovered completely and threw himself fully into the life of the monastery: Vita Petr. Atr. 104 (Vita Petr. Atr. Retractata, p. 157). Iakobos 4 became hegoumenos in 844.
