Andreas 21 was basilikos kommerkiarios of Thessalonike; owner of a seal dateable to the eighth or ninth century, probably late eighth or early ninth (see below): DOSeals I 18.34 = Zacos and Veglery 1406. Obv.: Κύριε βοήθει. Rev.: Ἀνδρέου β(ασιλικοῦ) κομερκ(ιαρίου) Θεσαλονήκ(ης). (νδικτίων) δ'. As a dated seal with no imperial portraits, Zacos and Veglery assigned this to the years 810/811 or 825/826; Nesbitt and Oikonomides proposed on epigraphic grounds a slightly earlier date, 795/796; see Nesbitt and Oikonomides, DOSeals I, p. 64. The same man was perhaps the owner of a second seal which does not have an indiction date: DOSeals I 18.35 = Zacos and Veglery 1712. Obv.: Θεοτόκε βοήθει with .ω - σω - .ου - λω in the corners. Rev.: [νδ]ρέου β(ασιλικοῦ) κ[ο]μερκ(ιαρίου) Θ[ε]σαλων[ίκησ]. On the significance of the differences, see Nesbitt and Oikonomides, DOSeals I, p. 65 (referring to Oikonomides, "Kommerkiarioi", 36 n. 14 and 50 n. 98).
