Anastasios 8 was bishop of Apollonia, also called Theotokia, in Bithynia; in 681 he attended the Third Council of Constantinople (the Sixth Ecumenical Council) and was present at two of the last three sessions (sessions sixteen and eighteen, on 9 August and 16 September): Riedinger, pp. 690-827 (= Mansi XI 616- 678). In the subscriptions to the statement of the faith, which condemned monotheletism, he is styled Ἀναστάσιος ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος τῆς Θεοτοκιανῶν πόλεως τῆς Βιθυνῶν ἐπαρχίας: Riedinger, p. 790, line 21 (= Mansi XI 649). In the signatures to the Council he is styled Ἀναστάσιος ἐλέει Θεοῦ ἐπίσκοπος Θεοτοκιανῶν ἤτοι Ἀπολλωνιάδος: Riedinger, p. 827, line 18 (= Mansi XI 677). The old Latin version printed in Riedinger calls his see "ciuitatis Theotocianorum" : Riedinger, p. 791, line 24 (= Mansi XI 650, 678). In the lists of those attending each session he is styled Ἀναστασίου ἐπισκόπου Θεοτοκιανῶν ἤτοι Ἀπολλωνιάδος: Riedinger, p. 690, line 10, p. 760, line 21 (= Mansi XI 616, 628).
