An Arab general, Alphadal Badinar (Alphadal 1) invaded the Roman empire in 773 and took five hundred prisoners; he was then attacked by men from Mopsuestia (οἱ δὲ Μομψουεστεῖς) and lost many of his troops: Theoph. AM 6264 . Perhaps his name was al-Fadl b. Dinar; see Mango and Scott, p. 616, n. 2.
