Albinus 1 was cubicularius, at Rome; in 799 he and other loyal supporters rescued pope Leo III (Leo 11) from the monastery of St Erasmus, where his enemies had confined him after assaulting him, and took him to the basilica of St Peter: Lib. Pont. 98. 14. The date of the assault was 25 April 799 (Lib. Pont. 98. 11: "in letania que ab omnibus maiore appellatur"). Subsequently the pope's enemies (see Paschalis 4 and Campulus 1) plundered and destroyed the house of Albinus ("domum Albini ... depraedantes destruxerunt"): Lib. Pont. 98. 15.
