A Stoudite monk, he was the addressee of a letter, together with his fellow monks Aphthonios 1 and Karterios 1, from Theodoros 15 (Theodore the Stoudite), in late 818 or early 819; addressed as a trio of brothers (τριὰς ἀδελφική: p. 557, line 3), they were subject to the iconoclast hegoumenos Leontios 29 and were punished for refusing him their obedience; on the other hand they received praise for this from Theodoros 15; Agapios is punningly described as strengthened by divine love (σὺ ὁ εὐσθενημένος τῇ θείᾳ ἀγάπῃ ἀληθέστατα Ἀγάπιος: p. 558, lines 23-24): Theod.Stud. Ep. 402, pp. 557-558 (addressed Τοῖς εἰς τὰ Στουδίου ἀδελφοῖς). The same three men are alluded to in a later letter (or sermon - Κατήχησις: p. 570, line 1) of Theodoros 15, written in May or June 819, after Leontios 29 had repented of his iconoclast stance: Theod. Stud. Ep. 410, pp. 570-572 (περὶ ὑμῶν τῶν τριῶν ὅτι ἡνώθητε ὑπὸ μεταμελείας τοῦ ἐλεεινοῦ Λεοντίου: p. 572, lines 62-63).
