Maria 3 was the wife of the emperor Leo III (Leo 3) (Μαρία, ἡ γυνὴ Λέοντος) and mother of the emperor Constantine V (Konstantinos 7); she was crowned (ἐστέφθη) Augusta (ἡ αὐγούστα Μαρία) on 25 December 718, shortly after the birth of Konstantinos 7 and on the same day that he was baptised: Theoph. AM 6211, Zon. XV 2. 12. Presumably mother also of Anna 1. See Rochow, Konstantin V, p. 225. Cf. also Ioannes 370.
