Konstans 1's name is spelt Κωνστάης. One MS indicates a lacuna in the name between Κωνστά and ην (accusative). In 782 Konstaes was sakellarios (σακελλάριον) (presumably the successor of Ioannes 14); he and Mamalos 1 were sent to the court of Charlemagne (Karoulos 1) to arrange the betrothal of the emperor Constantine VI (Konstantinos 8) to Karoulos 1's daughter Erythro 1 (Rotrud); when their mission succeeded they left Elissaios 1 behind to give Erythro 1 the necessary training in Greek language and customs: Theoph. AM 6274.
