Eudokimos 1 was the brother of Leo 4 (Leo IV), he was made nobelissimos (νοβελίσιμον) by Leo 4 on Easter Saturday (13 April) 776, in the tribunal of the Nineteen Couches; he then took part in the ceremonies surrounding the coronation of Constantine VI (Konstantinos 8) on 13 and 14 April: Theoph. AM 6268, cf. Zon. XV 9. 7 (τὸν ἑαυτοῦ ἀδελφὸν Εὐδόκιμον νωβελίσιμον ὁ βασιλεὺς προεβάλετο). He was in fact half-brother of Leo 4, being the son of Constantine V (Konstantinos 7) and Eudokia 1 and brother of Anthimos 1, Christophoros 1, Nikephoros 5 and Niketas 5. Early in the reign of Constantine VI (Konstantinos 8), after a conspiracy to put Nikephoros 5 on the throne was discovered, Eudokimos 1 and his brothers were tonsured, consecrated priests (ἱερωσύνης ἀξιωθῆναι) and made to perform religious ceremonies at Christmas: Zon. XV 10. 4. In August 792, after the tagmata tried to proclaim Nikephoros 5 emperor in place of Constantine VI (Konstantinos 8), Konstantinos 8 had Nikephoros 5 blinded and cut off the tongues of Eudokimos 1, Christophoros 1, Niketas 5 and Anthimos 1: Theoph. AM 6284, Zon. XV 12. 13. They were apparently living in the palace of Therapia in 797 when a conspiracy was formed against the empress Eirene 1 involving them; it was discovered and they were exiled to Athens: Theoph. AM 6290, Zon. XV 13. 18-19. After the failure of another conspiracy involving them in 799 they were all blinded on the orders of Eirene 1: Theoph. AM 6291 (see Nikephoros 5), Zon. XV 13. 20-21. In 812 the brothers were living under guard on the island of Panormos; following another conspiracy they were exiled to Aphousia (in the Sea of Marmara) (see Nikephoros 5): Theoph. AM 6304. See Rochow, Konstantin V, p. 214.
